Exar Architecture’s House Decroly is an award winning minimalist daylit home in Belgium

The street facade is relatively closed off compared to its garden-facing counterpart and reveals few elements of the interior. Contrary to closed street facade, the facade on the opposite end of the house blurs the line between inside and outside and opens the main living quarters to the garden area. This alternation between obscured views and transparency creates a variety of spatial experiences and establishes a dynamic relationship between volumes and surfaces.

The staircase, illuminated by a skylight, strengthens the perception of visual continuity and accentuates verticality. The structure of the house is anchored by the massive elements of the exterior walls, while the built-in furniture emphasizes the openness of spaces and their limits, and contributing to the fluidity of the views from the interior.
