A modern retrofit of a 50-year-old New York home will leave you breathless. The terraced energy-efficient residence in the Village of Mamaroneck in Westchester County is both a retrofit and extension of an existing house built in 1963. Benzing Architects designed the project for a private client, using the existing footprint and first floor framing as the renovation’s foundation. The design has won the 2015 EBie Awards, Urban Green Council`s “Oscars of existing buildings” in the category -Power to the People- for the greatest percentage reduction in building energy use.
