‘Like Modern Day Slavery’: Michael Moore Lets Loose with Epic Twitter Rant About Militarized Police

Moore’s never been one to mince words.


Michael Moore ruffles feathers for a living. He’s made films critiquing America’s permissive gun culture and the expansion of the military industrial complex under President George W. Bush. On Thursday, Moore again stoked controversy by calling for the disarmament of all American police officers and the release of all prisoners serving time on drug-related convictions.

“Imprison u, shoot u, sever your spine, crush your larynx, send u to war, keep u poor, call u a thug, not let u vote. But u can sing for us,” tweeted Michael Moore early on Thursday morning. The filmmaker was reacting to the police killing of Freddie Gray, and other incidents of police violence — particularly against black people — around the United States.
