the tragic events that took place within the charlie hebdo offices in paris on january 7th, 2015 shocked the world. 12 people were killed when masked gunmen stormed the satirical magazine’s headquarters, find several of which include celebrated french cartoonists stéphane charbonnier (charb), jean cabut, bernard velhac, and georges wolinski. in the wake of the tragic developments, illustrators and cartoonists around the world are paying tribute to the victims, not with words, but through art. in the last 24 hours, hundreds of drawings have been uploaded to twitter — below, some of the most powerful.

the images shown below are a result of the huge wave of emotions throughout the artistic communities that was caused by the attack against the french satirical magazine. in no way is there any justification for violence against a paper or artist expressing their beliefs, and let’s hope the current situation will not create a disproportionate reaction.
