First Broadway, now Hollywood.

Fresh off plans for “Michael Moore on Broadway: The Terms of My Surrender,” whose goal, as explained by Variety, is “to destabilize Trump and his administration through satire,” the Weinstein Company has acquired “Fahrenheit 11/9,” Moore’s latest documentary, this one about Donald Trump’s election.

According to Variety, the film was made “under a strict cloak of secrecy,” and according to a statement from the Weinstein Company quoted in the LA Times, “will be presented with the mix of outrage and mischievous humor that has made Moore the most successful documentary filmmaker in the world.”

Moore hopes it will be the first arrow to pierce Trump’s notorious ability to withstand scandal. As Moore explained in the statement:

“No matter what you throw at him, it hasn’t worked. No matter what is revealed, he remains standing. Facts, reality, brains cannot defeat him. Even when he commits a self-inflicted wound, he gets up the next morning and keeps going and tweeting. That all ends with this movie.”

The title is both a reference to the day Trump was elected president, and a nod to “Fahrenheit 9/11,” Moore’s documentary about the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, which was also made by the Weinstein Company. It was the highest-grossing documentary of all time, bringing in $200 million worldwide.

There’s no release date set, but the Weinstein Company is clearly betting big on this one, shopping it at the Cannes Film Festival, and perhaps hoping to recreate some of the success of “Fahrenheit 9/11.” As the company noted, “This movie will have one of the most innovative distribution plans ever. Now more than ever, Michael’s appetite for the truth is crucial. We are ecstatic to be a part of this revolution.”
